Empowering Cooperative Leaders of Pangasinan Districts 2 & 3 in Dispute Resolution

Calasiao, Pangasinan. A comprehensive three (3) – day Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Training was successfully conducted by CDA Region 1 Extension Office ADR Team spearheaded by Atty. Katherine F. Ellorin in collaboration with Calasiao Plant and Related Companies Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (CPRCEMPC) led by General Manager Engr. Edwin Zipagan on February 11-13, 2026, in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

 

 

In his Opening Remarks, Assistant Regional director (ARD) Edilberto Unson emphasized the importance of resorting to ADR mechanisms as a faster, cost-effective, and relationship-preserving alternative to litigation especially in the resolution of cooperative disputes.

CPRCEMPC, through Engr. Zipagan, warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the cooperative through a brief yet inspiring video presentation. The presentation highlighted the cooperative’s achievements, programs, and best practices, encouraging fellow cooperatives to aspire for excellence and continuously improve the quality of services they provide to their members and communities.

The first day introduced participants to the basic concepts of ADR, Anatomy of Conflicts and Introduction to Mediation. Discussions highlighted the legal bases, duties and responsibilities of Mediation-Conciliation Committee, and the procedure of mediation in the cooperative level. Participants likewise learned about documentation, drafting settlement agreements, and ensuring enforceability of agreements.

The second day focused on conflict resolution and facilitation skill-building. Interactive lectures, group discussions and role-playing exercises encouraged participants to identify effective conflict management styles and practice mediation techniques and processes. Emphasis was placed on the Stages of Mediation which comprised of the Problem-Defining and Problem-Solving phases to equip participants with the facilitation skills and enhance the conflict resolution skills to resolve disputes efficiently and amicably.

The final day covered mock mediation session which allowed participants to simulate and apply mediation stages to realistic cooperative case scenario.

At the end of the training, participants demonstrated improved confidence in managing disputes constructively. Participants likewise realized that in promoting a culture of peaceful conflict resolution and harmony within the cooperative, governance within the cooperative is strengthened and the importance of unity, transparency, and accountability will be reinforced.

The 3-Day ADR Training marks a significant step toward fostering peaceful conflict resolution and promoting sustainable development of cooperatives in Districts 2 and 3 of Pangasinan.
