Lingayen Strengthens Cooperative Movement Through Successful MCDC Formation, 2025 Coop Month Celebration, and Regional Recognition

Lingayen, Pangasinan — The Municipality of Lingayen through the Local Cooperative Development Office (LCDO) continues to lead in promoting cooperative development and unity as it successfully organized a series of milestone activities this 2025 — from the establishment of the Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC), to the celebration of Cooperative Month, and the regional recognition received by the Local Government Unit (LGU) and its cooperative partners.

On August 14, 2025, Lingayen successfully conducted the MCDC Orientation and Election of Officers, in collaboration with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region I – Extension Office and PPCLDO Pangasinan, with participation from DTI, DILG, and various cooperative chairpersons. The Council serves as a platform for coordination, guidance, and advocacy to further strengthen Lingayen’s cooperative sector.

The newly elected MCDC officers: Adelina Vinluan, Lingayen Catholic Credit Cooperative (Chairperson), Rosalina Navata, United Christians Multipurpose Cooperative (Vice Chairperson), Maria Teresa Broqueza, Lingayen OFW Credit Cooperative (Secretary), Genaro Tomelden Jr., Pangasinan State University Multipurpose Cooperative (Treasurer), and Teddy Sison, DTI Lingayen (Auditor) — took their oath before Ms. Rocelyn Banayat of CDA Region I on September 12, 2025, following a courtesy call to Mayor Josefina “IDAY” V. Castañeda. The LCDO serves as the Secretariat of the MCDC.

The 2025 Cooperative Month Celebration was successfully held with the theme “Cooperatives: United in Purpose and Action, Sharing Prosperity to Build a Better World.” The event featured a Cooperative Zumba, messages from LGU and MCDC officials, and community outreach programs such as feeding, donations, and farming supply distribution — showcasing the cooperative spirit of unity and service.

Culminating the series of accomplishments, the LGU Lingayen and the MCDC received a Plaque of Recognition during the Region I Cooperative Stakeholders Summit 2025 on October 16, 2025, at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Convention Center, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The award honored Lingayen’s active participation and unwavering support in promoting cooperative development and inclusive growth. The recognition was accepted by Ms. Mary Shine Adrayan on behalf of Mayor Josefina V. Castañeda.

Through these initiatives, Lingayen reaffirms its commitment to empower cooperatives as vital partners in sustainable local development, truly embodying the cooperative values of unity, service, and shared prosperity. (Rocelyn C. Banayat, CDS II)
