The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), in partnership with the Community Improvement Division (CID) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City, facilitated an organizational meeting on September 26, 2025, at Pearlmont Hotel, Limketkai Drive, Cagayan de Oro City. The meeting aimed to promote the establishment of a Credit Surety Fund (CSF) Cooperative in the city—an important step in strengthening the cooperative movement and expanding financial access for local entrepreneurs and members. It was attended by 14 cooperatives alongside representatives from government agencies.
A key partner in the formation of a CSF Cooperative is the Local Government Unit, represented during the event by Councilor Gilda “Gigi” Go, Chairperson of the Committee on Cooperatives. Councilor Go expressed her strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the vital role of CSF Cooperatives in enabling MSMEs to access credit without the need for collateral. She noted that this will not only empower local enterprises but also foster inclusive economic growth. Councilor Go affirmed her commitment to making the CSF Cooperative a reality, stressing that no MSME should be left behind in the effort to uplift livelihoods and strengthen the city’s economy.
The participating cooperatives also demonstrated their commitment and support for the establishment of the CSF Cooperative by making pledges of contribution and by undertaking the election of interim officers, as well as the formation of working committees to carry forward the organizational process.
The organizational meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with all stakeholders expressing optimism that the establishment of the CSF Cooperative will soon become a reality. With the united efforts of the CDA, CID, LGU, and the cooperative sector, the initiative is expected to open greater opportunities for MSMEs, enhance financial inclusion, and contribute significantly to the sustainable economic development of Cagayan de Oro City.
