In every community, there are people who choose to work together rather than alone. Farmers pool their resources to improve their harvests, workers unite to create sustainable livelihoods, and ordinary citizens collaborate to uplift one another’s lives. These collective efforts embody the spirit of cooperativism—a movement founded on solidarity, self-help, and shared prosperity.

In celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives, the Province of Surigao del Sur proudly joins millions of cooperators around the world in recognizing the invaluable contributions of cooperatives to inclusive and sustainable development. The annual observance serves as a reminder that cooperatives are not merely economic enterprises but institutions that promote social justice, empower communities, and foster resilience amid evolving challenges.

Putting the cooperative principle of Concern for Community into action, cooperatives across Surigao del Sur organized various activities that created meaningful impacts within their respective localities. Cooperatives from the City of Tandag and the Municipalities of Marihatag and Cagwait spearheaded coastal clean-up activities, demonstrating their collective commitment to environmental protection and the preservation of coastal resources. Similarly, cooperatives in the City of Bislig conducted a clean-up drive, further reinforcing the importance of collective action in maintaining clean and healthy communities. In the Municipality of San Miguel, cooperatives conducted a feeding program and distributed school supplies to children, bringing nourishment, encouragement, and educational support to young learners. Meanwhile, cooperatives in the Municipalities of Carmen and Tago carried out tree-planting activities, contributing to environmental conservation efforts and promoting a greener and more sustainable future. These initiatives reflect the true essence of cooperativism—people working together not only for economic advancement but also for the welfare of their communities and the stewardship of the environment.

As Surigao del Sur joins the world in celebrating the International Day of Cooperatives, it reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement as a catalyst for inclusive growth and community transformation. Indeed, cooperativism reminds us that “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Through unity, shared responsibility, and collective action, cooperatives continue to prove that sustainable progress is best achieved when communities work hand in hand toward a common vision of prosperity and development.
