PROCOFACO Strengthens Financial Literacy Through DTI-CDA Training

The Prosperidad Coconut Farmers Cooperative (PROCOFACO) took a significant step toward empowering its Board of Directors and Officers by participating in a Financial Literacy Training under the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Capacity Building Program, in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). The training was held on April 22, 2026 at the PROCOFACO Office in Brgy. Mapaga, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Serving as the resource speaker, Mr. Lemuel D. Roboca, Trade and Industry Development Specialist from DTI, guided cooperative leaders through essential financial concepts. The program’s core objective was to enhance the competitiveness of cooperatives, equipping them with the knowledge and discipline to make sound financial decisions.

The initiative was spearheaded by Ms. Salve O. Selgas, Cooperative Development Officer II of CDA, who collaborated with DTI to deliver practical training sessions and workshops tailored to the needs of PROCOFACO participants.

Key Highlights of the Training

  • Personal Finance Basics – Participants learned how to assess their net worth and manage income wisely.
  • Budgeting Skills – Hands-on workshops helped members create realistic budgets and compare income versus expenses.
  • Risk Awareness – The training emphasized recognizing deficits, understanding break-even points, and preparing for emergencies.
  • Growth Mindset – Cooperative participants celebrated the importance of positive income growth and disciplined savings as pathways to financial freedom.

Impact on Cooperative Members

By instilling financial literacy, the training empowered PROCOFACO leaders to strengthen their cooperative’s sustainability. Beyond numbers, the program encouraged a culture of responsible financial management, resilience, and long-term planning—critical skills for navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in the agricultural sector.
