Unity in Action: Celebrating Cooperative Resilience in Butuan City

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region XIII Extension Office once again joined the global community in celebrating International Day of Cooperatives on July 6, 2024. The event brought together various cooperatives from Butuan City alongside stakeholders, embodying a spirit of unity and collaboration.

The celebration commenced with a motorcade that started from the Butuan City Sports Complex in Libertad, finishing at the Philippine Science High School Gymnasium in Tiniwisan, Butuan City. Participants were treated to a lively zumba session, setting the tone for a day of camaraderie and engagement.

The program formally opened with an inspiring message from CDA Regional Director, Monatao Honeya R. Alawi, underscoring the significance of cooperativism in fostering economic resilience and community empowerment. This sentiment was echoed by Butuan City Cooperative Development Council (CCDC) Chairperson Mr. Edgar N. Palarca, Jr., who conveyed unwavering support and encouragement to all cooperatives present.

Further enriching the event were educational sessions aimed at enhancing cooperative knowledge and capabilities. CDA’s legal officer, Atty. Kenny Junce P. Altubar, delivered insights on legal aspects crucial to cooperative operations. Additionally, a session on the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) was led by Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Representative Ms. Ernalyn Colon, providing valuable information to further empower cooperative endeavors.

The program concluded with a closing message delivered by Sr. CDS Anecita Unson, highlighting the day’s successes and reinforcing the commitment of Butuan City’s cooperatives and stakeholders to advancing the principles of cooperativism.

The celebration not only showcased the vitality of Butuan City’s cooperative sector but also underscored its role as a cornerstone of sustainable development and inclusive growth. Through collaborative efforts and shared values, the event exemplified the enduring spirit of cooperation that continues to drive progress within the region.

As the CDA Region XIII Extension Office looks forward, events like International Day of Cooperative serve as pivotal moments to renew commitments, foster partnerships, and celebrate achievements in the pursuit of a more resilient and prosperous community.
