As part of Cooperative Month, the Province of Batanes successfully held its Cooperative Consultative Meeting on October 17, 2025, at the Provincial Planning and Development Office, Kayhuvukan, Basco, Batanes.

The event gathered cooperative leaders, members, and key stakeholders to discuss how to strengthen the cooperative movement in this unique island province. Discussions focused on issues relevant to cooperatives’ compliance, particularly its geographic isolation and specialized needs.

Ms. Annalyn L. Catulin, Senior Cooperatives Development Specialist from the CDA Region II Extension Office, presented on the crucial topic of organizing a Federation or Union to unite Batanes cooperatives.

Provincial Governor Hon. Ronald P. Aguto Jr. attended the meeting and pledged his full support for the betterment and expansion of the island’s cooperatives.

The successful meeting reinforced the idea that for the Ivatan people, the cooperative model is more than just a business structure—it’s a cultural mechanism for survival, unity, and prosperity.

The CDA Region II Extension Office commended the Batanes cooperative sector for its active participation and commitment to ensuring the movement remains a stable force for inclusive growth in the northernmost province.
