Seminar on Good Manufacturing Practices and Accounting Fundamentals Strengthens Coconut Farmers Cooperatives

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – – In a concerted effort to strengthen the operations and sustainability of Coconut Farmers Cooperatives (CFCs) in Region II, the Cooperative Development Authority Region II Extension Office, in partnership with key agencies, successfully conducted a five-day seminar on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Basic Accounting for Non-Accountants (BANA). The event took place from September 22 to 26, 2025, at Go Hotels Plus, Tanza, Tuguegarao City.

The activity was actively participated in by nine (9) Coconut Farmers Cooperatives (CFCs) in Region II, underscoring their dedication to improving cooperative operations, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, and strengthening financial literacy for sustainable management and governance.

 

Regional Director, Atty. Jovilyn M. Gaffud-Marquez and OIC Supervising CDS, Atty. Nita Doreen L. Maestre-Tabbu, graced the event with their presence, expressing strong support for the continued development and growth of coconut farmers cooperatives in the area.

Adding valuable industry updates, Ms. Jane Agpaua from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) shared recent progress on programs under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), emphasizing initiatives like coconut-cacao integration and other PCA-led interventions.

The GMP sessions, were expertly facilitated by Ms. Carlita Natividad and Ms. Marites Camarauan of the Department of Trade and Industry Region II. Their discussions centered on critical topics such as food safety, quality assurance, and adherence to GMP standards.

On the financial side, the BANA training was led by Ms. Jennelyn Cadiente, Cooperative Development Specialist II of the CDA Region II Extension Office. She equipped participants with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in accounting, financial management, and accountability, tailored to the needs of non-accountants managing cooperative resources.

 

This capacity-building program aligns closely with the goals of the CFIDP, aiming to empower coconut farmers cooperatives with the necessary technical and financial competencies to improve productivity, uphold good governance, and ensure the long-term sustainability of their enterprises.
