Puso at Pag-asa: Christmas Outreach Program for the Children of Ruel Foundation Philippines, Inc. (A Gender and Development (GAD) Activity of CDA MIMAROPA)

On December 15, 2025, CDA MIMAROPA, in coordination with Coop Guard MPC and the GAD Focals from CRITS and HR, conducted the “Puso at Pag-asa” Christmas Outreach Program at Ruel Foundation Philippines, Inc., Masipit, Calapan City. The activity, held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, aimed to bring joy, care, and emotional support to children and babies who are abandoned, neglected, orphaned, or in vulnerable circumstances while fulfilling CDA MIMAROPA’s GAD mandate to support disadvantaged groups.

The program specifically benefitted 41 children and babies, as well as 31 workers and caregivers of the Ruel Foundation. The day started with the arrival of CDA staff, Coop Guard MPC representatives, and volunteers at the Foundation premises. After the initial setup and orientation, the program commenced with an opening prayer and welcome message, setting a warm and festive atmosphere.

The morning was filled with lively parlor games designed to engage the children and encourage interaction. The children enthusiastically participated in the activities, which included simple fun games suitable for different age groups. Prizes were given to winners, further motivating the children and creating an environment of enjoyment and camaraderie.

Following the games, gift packs containing essential items, toys, and school supplies were distributed to each of the 41 children and babies. This activity brought smiles and excitement, fulfilling the primary goal of providing emotional support and spreading the spirit of Christmas. Houseparents and caregivers also received tokens of appreciation, recognizing their dedication and care for the children and babies.

The program continued with a shared lunch and merienda, funded through the GAD Fund of CDA MIMAROPA, providing refreshments for the 31 staff and facilitators. This portion of the activity fostered fellowship among participants and allowed for informal interaction, strengthening relationships between CDA personnel, volunteers, and the Ruel Foundation staff.

Throughout the day, the activity was documented through photographs and brief narrative notes to serve as a record for reporting and evaluation purposes. The program concluded with a closing message and a photo session, marking the successful completion of the outreach.

The total expenses for gifts and parlor game prizes were covered by the Coop Guard MPC Cooperative Development Fund amounting to PHP 6,000. CDA MIMAROPA allotted funds from the GAD program to support the meals and snacks for the staff and facilitators

Overall, the outreach program was successful in achieving its objectives. The children and babies experienced joy, care, and inclusion, while CDA staff and Coop Guard MPC representatives engaged in meaningful volunteerism. The activity also strengthened CDA MIMAROPA’s GAD initiatives and partnerships with community stakeholders. Lessons learned include the importance of early coordination, careful budgeting, and selecting age-appropriate activities to maximize engagement and impact. The program is recommended to be sustained annually or replicated in other communities to continue supporting vulnerable children.
