Asec Ortega visits Camarines Norte Provincial Road Safety Enhancement Training for Transport Sector

DAET, CAMARINES NORTE – The Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) of Camarines Norte successfully conducted the Provincial Road Safety Enhancement Training with the theme “Koop-Kaligtasan at Kabuhayan para sa Transport Sector” on August 12, 2026, at Hiraya Hotel and Event Place, Daet, Camarines Norte.

The one-day activity gathered various stakeholders from the transportation sector, including transport cooperatives, jeepney operators and drivers, tricycle operators and drivers, UV Express operators, and other transportation stakeholders, to strengthen their awareness and understanding of road safety, responsible transportation practices, cooperativism, and livelihood opportunities.

Adding significance to the activity was the presence of Assistant Secretary Jesus Ferdinand De Perio Ortega, who graced and supported the undertaking. His presence underscored the importance of strengthening government initiatives that promote road safety, cooperative development, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the transportation sector.

The training highlighted the importance of promoting safe, responsible, and organized transportation while recognizing the vital contribution of transport workers and organizations to the mobility, productivity, and economic development of communities.

Participants were provided with relevant information and discussions on road safety measures, responsible driving, compliance with transportation laws and regulations, cooperative development, and opportunities to strengthen the livelihood and welfare of transport-sector workers.

The activity also emphasized the role of transport cooperatives as a mechanism for improving the organization, sustainability, and economic capacity of transportation groups. Through cooperativism, transport operators and drivers can work collectively toward improved services, stronger organizations, and better livelihood opportunities for their members.

Another important aspect highlighted during the activity was the need for updated transportation data, particularly the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), which serves as an important reference in supporting effective local transportation planning and development.

The successful conduct of the training demonstrated the importance of collaboration among the Provincial Government of Camarines Norte, Cooperative Development Office, local government units, transport cooperatives, drivers, operators, and other stakeholders in addressing road safety concerns and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities within the transportation sector.

The activity also provided a venue for participants to exchange experiences, concerns, and insights regarding the challenges confronting the local transportation sector. These discussions emphasized the need for continuous capacity-building, stronger coordination, and sustained government support for transport workers and organizations.

The PCDO expressed its appreciation to ASEC Jesus Ferdinand De Perio Ortega, Gov. Ricarte “Dong” Padilla, VG Engr. Joseph V. Ascutia, the participating transport organizations, local government partners, and other stakeholders whose presence, cooperation, and support contributed to the successful implementation of the activity.

More than a road safety initiative, the “Koop-Kaligtasan at Kabuhayan para sa Transport Sector” training emphasized the interconnected goals of safety, cooperativism, and livelihood development protecting lives on the road while helping build stronger, more organized, and sustainable livelihoods for those who keep communities moving. The activity serves as another significant step toward strengthening the transportation sector of Camarines Norte through road safety, cooperative development, collaboration, and sustainable economic opportunities.
