Quiz – C – C stands for Cooperative!

The rebrand of this regional quiz bee comes with a surprise – for the first time, cooperative officers will also be competing for the crown. This regional quiz bee is also the much-awaited event for the higher education institutions to prove and defend their victory as it is already the Authority’s third inter-collegiate regional quiz bee.

In celebration of the 2025 Cooperative Month, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region V Extension Office successfully held the 3rd Regional Cooperative Quiz-C Competition on October 17, 2025, at Atrium Activity Center, Robinsons Place, Naga City.

The activity brought together seven (7) college students from various higher education institutions (HEIs) and representatives from the cooperative sector across the Bicol Region. It aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of cooperative laws, principles, values, and practices on how cooperatives work as instruments of social and economic development while highlighting the essential role that cooperatives play in advancing inclusive and sustainable development. This is also an opportunity for the younger generation to embrace and understand that there is another sector that plays a vital role in nation-building through shaping the communities – the cooperatives.

Adding highlights to the event is the opening its breakthrough to the cooperative sector and ten (10) cooperative members from all ages answered the call on its initial phase. It aims to strengthen the educational foundation of cooperatives by engaging members in an interactive and intellectually stimulating activity that spearhead the importance of continuous learning within the sector.

This initiative also serves as a platform to encourage camaraderie, teamwork, and healthy competition among participating cooperatives. By showcasing the members’ knowledge and commitment to cooperative ideals, the Quiz Bee reinforces the significance of education as a cornerstone of cooperative development and good governance.

Through this annual competition, CDA Region V continues to champion cooperative education among the youth encouraging awareness, participation, and leadership in the cooperative movement. The event also underscores one of the fundamental cooperative principles: education, training, and information, which serves as a foundation for building capable and engaged members of the cooperative community.

After a dynamic and intellectually engaging contest, the following emerged as winners:

Academe Category

• Champion: Partido State University (Reiza Mae B. Barrion)

• 1st Runner-Up: Naga College Foundation (Krysha Anne C. Baldonado)

• 2nd Runner-Up: Camarines Norte State College (Danna Rose V. Vergara)

Cooperative Sector Category

• Champion: Basud Development Cooperative (Rosa Q. Arciga)

• 1st Runner-Up: Camarines Sur Teachers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Melvin Meneses)

• 2nd Runner-Up: Sorsogon Cooperative Union (Atty. Bienvenido J. Larosa)

The quiz bee was divided into easy, average, and difficult rounds, testing participants’ knowledge of cooperative concepts, governance, legislation, and best practices. It also served as an engaging platform for interaction, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among students and cooperative leaders, officers and members.

Through initiatives like this, CDA Region V reaffirms its commitment to cultivating informed, empowered, and value-driven individuals who can contribute to the continued growth and sustainability of the cooperative movement in the Bicol Region.
