The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region VIII Extension Office, through Regional Director Venus M. Jornales, together with her staff Mr. Rowan Delos Santos and Jonel B. Cerbito, participated in the Ceremonial Turnover of Rice Processing Center 3 of CUTA Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative held at Brgy. Pikas, Barugo, Leyte.
The Rice Processing Center was funded under the Department of Agriculture (DA) – National Rice Program, one of the flagship programs of the DA, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting farming communities. This facility is expected to significantly improve the productivity and income potential of rice farmers in Barugo and neighboring municipalities by providing access to efficient post-harvest processing services, reducing grain losses, enhancing rice quality, and increasing farmers’ competitiveness in the market. Beyond economic benefits, the project also promotes food security and encourages greater participation of local farmers in sustainable agricultural enterprise development. As the lead implementing agency, Director Rodel Macapañas of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VIII (DA-RFO VIII) was also present together with his staff, reflecting the agency’s firm commitment to advancing the agriculture sector and empowering local farming communities.
During the program, RD Venus delivered a message of support, expressing appreciation to all stakeholders who made the project possible, including the Local Government Unit of Barugo, the Barangay Local Government Unit, officers, members, and the entire CUTA Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative community. She likewise recognized the Department of Agriculture, under the leadership of Director Macapañas, for its unwavering support to both the agriculture and cooperative sectors through impactful and sustainable development initiatives.
RD Venus emphasized the importance of unity, active participation, and shared responsibility among cooperative members to ensure the sustainability of the enterprise. She reminded the cooperative to uphold professionalism and remain guided by the true principles of cooperativism through collective action in managing and strengthening the project for the benefit of its members and the wider community. She further encouraged the cooperative to enhance its market presence through proper branding and product packaging, highlighting that a strong product identity is essential to improving competitiveness and expanding market opportunities. Moreover, she underscored the importance of strong collaboration among government agencies, local stakeholders, and cooperatives in bringing services closer to the people and ensuring inclusive development where no one is left behind. The turnover of this facility stands as a testament to what can be achieved when government agencies, cooperatives, and local communities work together – building more resilient, productive, and self-sustaining rural communities.
