Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11502, the month of October officially celebrates the National Cooperative Month. This annual event showcases the contributions of the cooperative community to the progress of the country’s economy as well as its contributions to social development and support to other sectors in the Philippine economic landscape.
As part of the National Cooperative Month Celebration, on October 6, 2024, Baguio City officially kicked-off its Cooperative Month Celebration at the historic Malcolm Square and Session Road. Attended by 120 participants from the different cooperatives in the city, the activity was graced by the local chief executive Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Committee on Cooperatives member, Councilor Isabelo Cosalan and Cooperative Development Authority – Cordillera Administrative Region Extension Office (CDA-CAR) Senior Cooperatives Development Specialist Martin Manodon representing OIC-Regional Director Felicidad R. Cenon, PhD. In their respective messages to the cooperative community, they have expressed their recognition of the community’s involvement in the city’s growth and development.
Organized by the Baguio City Cooperative Development Council in collaboration with the CDA-CAR, Cordillera Administrative Region Cooperative Union (CARCU), Cooperative Union of Baguio City and Luzon (CUBCL), Northern Luzon League of Cooperative and Development Center (NORLU-CEDEC), and the Northwestern Luzon League of Cooperatives (NORWESLU), the kick-off activity stressed the critical roles that cooperatives perform in driving the local.
It also highlighted the involvement of cooperatives in the Session Road Market Encounter. In this endeavor, 22 cooperatives marketed their products including food and non-food items which generated a total of Php. 286,902.00 in sales. Additionally, the cooperative community welcomed 52 new members in this one-day event signifying the confidence the public holds for cooperatives.
