Celebrating Unity and Progress: The 2024 Cooperative Month Culmination in Region 10

In its culmination of the 2024 National Cooperative Month, the various partners of the cooperative sector gathered to honor the achievements and engagement of Region 10 cooperatives last October 27, 2024, at the Liceo Civic Center, Liceo de Cagayan University, RN. Pelaez Blvd, Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City. The organizing committee, Regional Cooperative Development Council 10 (RCDC 10), in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative Office (PCO) of Misamis Oriental PCO and the Cooperative Development Authority – Region X Extension Office (CDA Region 10), led the way for this remarkable event to be possible.

It began with a moving rendition of an opening prayer and the singing of the National Anthem by the CLIMBS Chorale, and the recital of the Cooperative Pledge. Starting the program in a vibrant tone, Dr. Gervacio Piator, CPA, Chairperson of the RCDC-10, enthusiastically welcomed the esteemed guests and participants of the event. It was followed by an inspiring message from the Assistant Regional Director of CDA Region 10 Marissa B. Catubig, who spoke on behalf of the Regional Director Aminoden A. Elias. She extended her warm greetings and congratulations to the success of the activities of the region for the whole month of October. Further, she expressed her encouragement to the cooperatives to lay support on those who were recently affected by the typhoon in the Bicol region and other areas. With this year’s theme for the Cooperative Month, “Stronger Together Today for a Brighter Tomorrow”, our dear speakers have definitely elaborated our cooperatives’ role in supporting the local economy and fostering social development by coming together in one mission and vision, which is a future of camaraderie and harmony between cooperatives and their utmost concern for the community.

The highlight of the first half of the program was the awarding ceremony recognizing cooperative leaders and partners for their exemplary contributions in various categories. The Gawad Parangal Regional Winners and National Nominees for this year were two (2) local executive chiefs and two (2) cooperative development officers who have significantly advanced cooperative initiatives in Region 10. Their unwavering commitment and leadership have fostered a cooperative environment, empowering individuals and enhancing the overall well-being of communities. The awardees were Hon. Imelda Q. Dimaporo, Governor of Lanao del Norte and Hon. Frederick W. Siao, Mayor of Iligan City. The most notable cooperative development officers were Ms. Minda V. Regis of Lanao del Norte and Ms. Alice A. Coronado of Iligan City, whose efforts in advocating for cooperative development and community empowerment were instrumental in driving sustainable initiatives for the cooperative sector. Their work serves as an inspiration, reflecting the core values of cooperation and solidarity that are essential in the cooperative movement.

In addition, the Kaabag sa Kooperatiba Awards were also given to local officials and cooperative offices known to have given major contributions to cooperative programs and activities in the region. The Koop Kapatid Program Awards were also presented to six (6) Big Brother Cooperatives and (one) 1 Small Brother Cooperative which have made substantial impacts in the implementation of the program. Special Recognition and Plaques of Appreciation were also bestowed upon cooperative sponsors, individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to cooperative initiatives transforming lives, fostering economic development, promoting social responsibility and enhancing cooperative practices in the region.

Furthermore, winners of the CEO’s Cup, the annual sportsfest organized by the Cooperative Development Council- Cagayan de Or City every Cooperative Month were announced. Trophies, medals and cash prizes were awarded to those who excelled in the different sports events. The full list of awards are as follows:

Towards the evening, the second part of the culmination event is the most awaited coronation of Mr. and Ms. Cooperative Region 10 2024. Beautiful and handsome candidates from various cooperatives in Region 10 showcased not only their beauty and charisma but also their deep understanding of cooperative principles and their respective advocacies. Each contender brought forth their knowledge and philosophies during the nerve-wracking Q & A portion. Amidst that challenge, this gave a spotlight to inspire and educate the audience about the profound impact that cooperative movements have had in Region 10. Emerging as the most eloquent and charming winners, the crown for Mr. and Ms. Cooperative Region X 2024 were given to the representatives of Bukidnon Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (BUGEMCO), and Kapatagan Vendors Savings and Credit Cooperative (KVSCC), respectively.
