Regional Information Caravan Empowers Cooperatives with Crucial Financial Consumer Protection Knowledge

Cagayan de Oro, Region 10 – Cooperatives across Northern Mindanao received essential financial consumer protection knowledge through a series of highly successful information caravans conducted throughout February and March 2025. The initiative aimed to strengthen cooperative resilience by equipping members with a comprehensive understanding of Republic Act 11765, the Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act (FCPA).

The annual regional Information Caravan served as a critical platform for disseminating information and fostering understanding of consumer rights and responsibilities within the financial sector. Led by the Regional Credit Surety Fund (CSF) Section Head, the orientation focused on empowering participants with the tools and insights needed to navigate the complexities of financial products and services effectively.

In addition to the FCPA orientations, section heads from the Legal, Registration, Supervision and Examination Section (SES), Cooperative Research, Information, and Training Section (CRITS), and Cooperative Project Development and Assistance Section (CPDAS) provided valuable updates on various programs and initiatives. These discussions highlighted new policies and guidelines designed to enhance the cooperative movement, ensuring its sustainable growth and long-term viability.

To ensure accessibility and widespread participation, the Information Caravan was held across multiple locations, allowing cooperatives from different provinces to benefit from this vital initiative. The schedule included:

  • Bukidnon: February 13, 2025
  • Iligan City, Tubod (Lanao del Norte), and Misamis Occidental: February 19-21, 2025
  • Camiguin (Mambajao Convention Center): February 27, 2025
  • Misamis Oriental:
    • Gingoog City: March 5, 2025
    • Villanueva: March 6, 2025
    • Cagayan de Oro City: March 13, 2025
    • El Salvador City: March 14, 2025
  • Virtual Info Caravan – March 18, 2025

The resounding success of the Information Caravan underscores the region’s unwavering commitment to fostering an informed and financially responsible cooperative sector.
