CDA CELEBRATES PRIVACY AWARENESS WEEK 2025

In support of the celebration of the National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) Privacy Awareness Week (PAW), the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) joined the celebration in promoting Privacy Awareness among CDA employees. PAW is observed annually during the last week of May as an avenue to cultivate public understanding of the fundamental right to data privacy and its critical role in various sectors of society.

This year’s PAW theme, “Global Privacy Matters: Navigating a Borderless Digital World and Expanding New Professional Horizons,” aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directives to advance digital transformation and strengthen the country’s digital economy. It emphasizes the collective responsibility of individuals, organizations, and governments to safeguard privacy while fostering inclusive digital experiences and professional opportunities in an interconnected world.

In her introductory statement, Atty. Leah B. Banagui-Han, Deputy Administrator for Legal Affairs Service and Data Protection Officer (DPO), addressed the employees by encouraging them to take an active role in protecting their personal data. She urged everyone to check the privacy settings on their mobile devices and social media accounts as a simple yet crucial step in maintaining the safety of their digital privacy. She also introduced the Data Privacy Kit as a quick guide for Data Privacy Act and Privacy Impact Assessment which was initiated by the DPO team by providing the Kit’s QR code to facilitate easy electronic access and ready reference.

Atty. Banagui-Han gave a glimpse into her journey as the CDA’s DPO. The role comes with constant updates and policy checks. Now at the helm of the agency’s privacy efforts, she helps keep things in line with data protection rules, making sure cooperative members’ information stays where it should: safe and secure.

Featuring the basics of data privacy, the DPO team organized an interactive Data Privacy Crossword – a brain-teasing way for participants to explore the essentials of the Data Privacy Act while promoting greater familiarity and boosting their privacy know-how. The

To put a bow on the celebration, the Data Privacy Frequently Asked Questions Booklet was launched which is a practical guide to clarify common concerns, promote compliance, and support the cooperative sector in upholding data privacy and transparency. This initiative bolsters the Cooperative Development Authority’s active advocacy for data protection.
