CDA ENCOURAGES COOPERATIVES TO HELP NORTHERN NEGROS

Since the start of the year, around 15,000 families were affected by the flood during New Year’s Day and affected the cities of Talisay, Silay and Victorias and the municipality of E.B. Magalona. On January 8 & 9, 2021, over 38,000 families were also affected by the flood that hit cities and municipalities in Northern Negros Occidental. Based on the previous data of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, the massive floods affected thousands of families and around 1,162 houses were damaged by the floods.

Because of the damages brought about by the flood, the cities of Silay, Talisay and Victorias and the municipality of E.B. Magalona all declared a state of calamity. Other cities affected include Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante and San Carlos.

In light of all of these calamities brought about by the heavy rain and flooding in Northern Negros and in the spirit of cooperativism, the CDA Board of Directors passed CDA BOD Resolution No. 010 S-2021 encouraging all cooperatives to extend the necessary assistance to the flood affected areas in the Norther part of Negros Occidental.

Concerted and collective efforts of the cooperatives in providing assistance in any way will surely make a great difference in the lives of the affected families especially during this time of crisis. /ECA
