The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) conducted a meeting of the National Coordinating Committee for Cooperative Development (NCC-CD) Sub-Committee on Agriculture and Industrialization on August 31, 2023 in Sequoia Hotel, Quezon City. Eight committee-member agencies attended the meeting.
At the heart of the meeting discussion is the implementation the Presidential Directives on consolidating farmers in the Philippines through acceleration of cooperatives engaged with the nation’s agriculture, and synchronizing all government efforts in advancing the standard of living for Filipino farmers as cited in His Excellency’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 24, 2023.
Below are the member-agencies being represented in the said meeting:
- Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)
- Department of Science and Technology (DOST)
- Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
- National Irrigation Administration (NIA)
- Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech)
- Philippine International Trading Corporation (PITC)
- Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA)
- Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)
During the meeting, the Sub-committee members expressed their support and commitment to align their programs and projects towards the “Strategic Cooperative Agricultural Framework” for food security and self-sufficiency.
The first (1st) meeting of the NCC-CD Committee as a whole was held last February 15, 2023 at the Hive Hotel & Convention Place, Quezon City. There are six Sub-Committees created with each mandate and focus objectives in realizing the NCC-CD main goal for cooperative development in the country.
As stipulated in RA No. 11364 and its Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR), the CDA shall be the lead government agency in cooperative development and shall synchronize the efforts of other relevant government institutions toward the common goal of empowering the cooperatives in achieving their growth as instruments of equity, social justice and economic development.
