Cooperatives have once again proved to be a significant player and winner in even playing field when it garnered the national awards for productivity competition organized by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), an attached agency to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The Productivity Olympics is a national biennial competition on the best productivity improvement practices of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It aims to intensify national awareness and commitment to quality and productivity in the workplace.
We take pride of the following cooperative winners in this year’s Productivity Olympic competition:
- Masisit-Dacal Livelihood Cooperative (MASCOOP) in Cagayan Valley Region for small enterprises Agribusiness Sector;
- Pavia Enterpreneurs Multi-purpose Cooperative in Western Visayas for micro enterprises Service Sector; and
- Andres Soriano Memorial Hospital Cooperative in CARAGA Region for medium enterprises Service Sector.
No less than the Labor Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz conferred to the cooperative awardees the coveted trophy and One Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php100,000.00) cash award each to the national winners. Aside from the attractive trophy, the winners also received priority endorsements to other DOLE training programs and services. The awarding ceremonies were held at the Hotel Jen Manila on October 15, 2015.
In her keynote speech, Secretary Baldoz acknowledged the winners for bringing about harmonious convergence of employment generation, labor productivity and enterprise competitiveness. She also expressed optimism that more micro, small, and medium enterprises will embark on their productivity journey to become viable agents of equitable and inclusive growth.
The Labor Chief committed to continue addressing the growth of MSMEs mainly through capacity-building and productivity improvement programs. Related thereto is the NWPCs Productivity Toolbox, which is, a package of technical assistance on productivity improvement for MSMEs that contains ladderized and needs-based menu of customized productivity tools and technologies.
