On May 3, 2018, ASUNCION COCONUT FARMERS AGRICULTURE COOPERATIVE (ACOFACO) was registered with the CDA-Davao Extension Office, with a registered address at Barangay Cambanogoy, Asuncion, Davao del Norte. The cooperative produced organic fertilizer with a very minimal share capital contributed by the members and through the assistance of the Municipal Agriculture Office of Asuncion, Davao del Norte.
When the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) launched the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) last December 2022, ACOFACO officers grabbed the opportunity and availed of the financial assistance. Presently, the CFIDP granted an amount of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Pesos (PhP 250,000.00) cash assistance for the production of organic fertilizer for the coconut production of the member farmers.
To date, ACOFACO has produced One Hundred Forty-One (141) bags of fertilizer of which forty (40) bags have been sold out. Through the CFIDP Funds, ACOFACO was able to establish a production area and at the same time a cooperative office at Purok 8, Barangay Magatos, Asuncion, Davao del Norte, and soon another production area to be established at Purok Mahayahay, Barangay Cambanogoy, also in Asuncion, Davao del Norte.
The mass production is manned by four (4) workers who manually mix the dried and pulverized animal manure, grind cocopeat, plants and vegetables, and phosphate rock. When the raw materials are thoroughly mixed by the workers, they will be transferred into the mixing equipment for further mixing and then bagged ready for sale.
The production capacity of the cooperative has increased through the CFIDP fund assistance and many cooperative members have availed and enjoyed the use and application of the organic fertilizer to their coconut trees which could increase the yield of their harvest.
In addition, the officers and bookkeepers of ACOFACO attended the Capability Building Program provided by CDA on Financial Management Training and the Business Continuity Management Training to ensure that the proper implementation of the program is in place and the monitoring requirements are met by the approved Project Proposal.
The officers and the general membership of ACOFACO are ever grateful for the CFIDP Fund Assistance received through the PCA and CDA.
