The Imus City Government has recently launched Eskwela Kooperatiba thru the effort of Imus City Coop Office headed by former CDA Chair Emmanuel M. Santiaguel. The event was also graced by the present CDA Chair Orlando R. Ravanera together with other CDA personnel. The program tries to mainstream the students and the youth in the Philippine Cooperative Movement by imbibing the values of “thrift and savings which are oftentimes neglected to be imparted to the kids,” Dr. Santiaguel stressed.
Whatever amount they save now they can withdraw in the future. This will teach them of virtue of thriftiness. CDA Chair Orlando R. Ravanera emphasized.
The pilot launching attempts to make Imus City as Student/Youth and Laboratory Capital of the Philippines as declared by the CDA. Initially, 26 public and 12 private schools distributed to 12 guardian coops in Imus with a combined 90 thousand students as laboratory cooperative members participated in the program. Imus City Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi is fully supportive to this joint initiative of the Cooperative Development Authority and Imus Cooperative Office. It envisions to be replicated in other areas in the country so that the essence of cooperativism can be implanted early in the minds of the youth. (Video Clip source: News5 everywhere)
