CSFS-October Highlights: Outreach, Advocacy, and Environmental Stewardship

The Credit Surety Fund (CSF) Section of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region 1 Extension Office successfully conducted various activities in October to promote the benefits of the CSF Program, encourage more cooperatives to join, and contribute to environmental conservation.

Tree Planting Activity and Townhall Meeting in Ilocos Norte

On October 1, during the Provincial Cooperative Month Celebration kick-off in Ilocos Norte, a tree planting activity was held in Brgy. Davila, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, with the enthusiastic participation of 158 cooperative members and supporters. This collaborative effort involved the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, the Cooperative Union of Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Coconut Authority, and the CDA-R1EO.

Following the successful tree planting activity, Senior CDS Renee Faye D. Cariño conducted a townhall meeting with the participating cooperative members, who were predominantly engaged in agriculture. She introduced the CSF Program and its potential benefits for local government units and cooperatives. The presentation generated significant interest, with many attendees expressing a desire to join a proposed CSF Cooperative in Ilocos Norte.

Collaborative Social Media Engagement with ATI-RTC

On October 17, in collaboration with the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC), Ms. Cariño, participated in a Facebook Live interview on the “Agribalitalakayan” Webinar Series. The interview was spearheaded by Dr. Jayvee Bryan Carillo, and featured Dr. Maricel D. Dacapias and Ms. Junely Repancol, Information Officers of the ATI-RTC.

During the interview, Ms. Cariño provided a clear overview of the CSF Program and its benefits, addressing questions from the hosts and viewers. The collaboration with the ATI-RTC highlighted the potential for Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSAs) to become members of CSF Cooperatives.

Campaign for Increased Membership

During the Regional Cooperative Month Celebration in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on October 18, the Chairperson of the La Union Credit Surety Fund Cooperative, Mr. Emmanuel Juquiana, delivered an orientation on the CSF Program. He explained how CSF Cooperatives can support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and improve their economic conditions. Mr. Juquiana also shared his cooperative’s experiences and encouraged participants to join existing CSF Cooperatives or establish new ones.

Overall, these activities have been instrumental in raising awareness of the CSF Program, fostering a positive response from cooperatives in Ilocos Region, and contributing to environmental sustainability through the tree planting initiative. The CDA-R1EO remains committed to providing support and guidance to cooperatives interested in joining the CSF Program and participating in future environmental initiatives, as well as strengthening partnerships with organizations like the ATI-RTC.
