Strengthening Cooperatives: Cooperative Business Continuity and Resiliency

In an ever-changing business environment including cooperatives, it is necessary that cooperatives have robust strategies to withstand disruptions, challenges in their operations. A well-structured Cooperative Business Continuity and Resiliency (BCPR) Program is essential to safeguard operations, assets, and stakeholders.

As mandated in RA 11364, The Cooperative Development Authority Region 1 Extension Office conducted a three-day pilot training in using the Cooperative Business Continuity Resiliency (CBCR) Assessment Tool at La Union Multi-Purpose Cooperative Event Center –Brgy. Patac, Sto. Tomas, La Union on February 17-19, 2025. Twenty-five (25) participants compost of Members and Officers of the different cooperative categories accepted these endeavor: Baggak Agriculture Cooperative (Micro), Pan Ilocandia Transport Cooperative (Small), Anduyan Multipurpose Cooperative (Medium) and Tubao Multipurpose Cooperative (Large) and La Union Multipurpose Cooperative (Large) cooperatives from the Province of La Union.

This pilot testing is a vital step in strengthening the resilience of cooperatives through an effective Business Continuity Plan Resiliency. By identifying weaknesses and refining strategies in a simulated environment, cooperatives can ensure they are well-prepared to navigate future challenges. Regular testing and updates to the CBCR Plan will enhance operational sustainability and reinforce the cooperative’s commitment to its members and community.

The Cooperative Research Information and Training Section (CRITS) of CDA R1 EO headed by Sr. CDS Filipina H. Porio and CDS II Walter M. Mendoza spearheaded the training.

Mr. Richard G. Gacisan, CDS II and Engr. Marwin C.Peralta,CDS II served as Resource Speakers.

In addition, present during the training is CDS II Flor de Luz Magpili of the Agri-Enterprise and Cooperative Unit – OPAG La Union.
