The personnel of CDA – Region XI Extension Office, headed by Director Elma R. Oguis, underwent Disaster Preparedness Webinar via Zoom platform in the morning of May 15, 2021. The preliminaries, the setting of house rules, and the roll call of participants were facilitated by Ms. Juna May Z. Roble, the acting Human Resource Management Officer. Mr. Antonio C. Escobar, Supervising Cooperative Development Specialist, told the participants in his welcoming message to “maximize the opportunity to learn and relearn” all the things needed for survival amidst calamities.
In the first part of the presentation of the resource speaker, Mr. Marvin D. Samson, RSW, Head of the Capacity Building and Training Section of the Office of Civil Defense XI, discussed the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction System in the “New Normal”. In this part of the presentation, Mr. Samson touched on what events that qualify as disasters. He then discussed the disaster risk profile of the Philippines. The Disaster Preparedness Webinar proper formed part of his second presentation. He made an exposition on its definition, its four thematic areas, and presented some examples. The exchange of ideas between the speaker and the participants were very lively and educational.
During her closing remarks, CDA – Region XI Extension Office Director Elma R. Oguis showed appreciation to the Office of Civil Defense for their time despite the tight schedule of both offices. Dir. Oguis emphasized that this webinar is more than just accomplishing the target. She added that the application of all the learnings from will always be more important.
