The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) RXI recently concluded the four batches of 3-day training on Internal Control designed to strengthen the internal control practices among Coconut Farmers’ Cooperatives (CFC) in Region XI. This capacity building training, as an implementation of the Coconut Farmers Organization and Development through Cooperatives (COCOFARMCOOP) Program under the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Program (CFIDP), is intended for cooperatives officers, particularly the Board of Directors, General Managers, and members of Audit Committees of CFCs duly accredited by Philippine Coconut Authority from various provinces within the region. The training emphasized that internal controls are indispensable to enable cooperatives to operate appropriately and transparently.
A total of 283 individuals actively participated in the 3-day training sessions, which were conducted separately for each province:
Davao City – July 3-5, 2024
Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental – July 10-12, 2024
Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro – July 15-17, 2024
Davao Oriental – July 23-25, 2024
The key objective of the training program was to equip cooperative officers with the relevant knowledge pertaining to internal control frameworks. Overview of basic internal control principles, all highlighting the leading roles of the officers in ensuring accountability and asset protection through minimizing errors and eliminating opportunities for fraud in all aspect of their cooperative operation.
The participants were engaged actively throughout the session in the discussions and practical exercises focusing on Cash, Inventory, and Fixed Assets Management.
At the end of the seminar, the participants expressed gratitude that they will be able to come home in their respective cooperatives equipped with better understanding and knowledge on internal control and committed to establish and or strengthen their procedures through formulation or review of policies and ensure its proper and effective implementation as a step towards proper management of cooperative resources and operations.
The training on Internal Control is the first of the four (4) capacity building trainings set to be conducted by CDA RXI for Year 2024 for CFCs in the region.
