CDA Region XIII Concludes Cooperative Month with Passionate Culmination Event

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region XIII Extension Office capped off its Cooperative Month celebration with an event filled with enthusiasm and passion on October 22, 2024, at the LMX Convention Center in Butuan City. A total of 272 participants, including coconut farmers, CDA personnel, and various stakeholders, gathered for the culmination program, marking a vibrant close to the month’s activities.

Starting off the activity was an energizing Zumba session led by an enthusiastic instructor, igniting the crowd with high spirits and setting a lively tone for the day. Following this was an inspiring opening message by CDA Caraga Regional Director, Dr. Monatao Honeya R. Alawi, who underscored the importance of unity and collaboration within the cooperative movement.

The event’s highlight was a Financial Literacy session led by Ms. Glizriel Rose Z. Quijada, Bank Officer IV and Assistant Manager of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Regional Economic Affairs Staff in Butuan City. Ms. Quijada emphasized the critical importance of savings and the role of an emergency fund to support individuals during challenging times. She introduced a savings formula — “Income – Savings = Expenses” — to encourage participants to prioritize savings before expenses, fostering a disciplined approach to financial management. Ms. Quijada stressed that financial literacy goes beyond mere savings, advocating for smart investments and mindful spending.

Following the financial literacy session, a Financial Forum was held, featuring Mr. Juniel Paran from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Mr. Paran presented various programs under SB Corp., highlighting loan opportunities available for coconut farmer cooperatives, provided they meet specific requirements. His insights provided valuable information for participants looking to expand their cooperative ventures.

As the event concluded, participants shared expressions of gratitude, with three coconut farmers giving personal testimonies. They expressed their appreciation for the opportunities and knowledge gained, crediting the CDA for offering both educational and enjoyable experiences. The culmination ended on a high note, with participants inspired and equipped with practical knowledge to enhance their cooperative journey.
