Empowering Cooperatives: highlights from the 1st Cabadbaran City Cooperative Congress

In celebration of the Cooperative Month 2023, the historic 1st Cabadbaran City Cooperative Congress was held on October 26, 2023, at the City Gymnasium of Cabadbaran. Spearheaded by the local cooperative sector and supported by the Cabadbaran City Cooperative Development Office (CCCDO) under the leadership of Engr. Louiel C. Bulang, the event marked a significant milestone for cooperative development in the region.

The congress, a full-day affair, commenced with a captivating opening ceremony followed by an engaging educational program designed for cooperative representatives. A motivating message from Councilor Joan A. Monding, Chairperson of the City Committee on Cooperatives, set the tone for the day. Vice Mayor Rey G. Jamboy then delivered a compelling speech, inspiring the cooperative community with his insights and wisdom.

Throughout the day, participants were enriched with knowledge through a series of enlightening lectures. Notable speakers such as Mr. Stephen L. Kintanar, the Chief of DTI-Agusan del Norte, and Mr. Jonnie M. Sacote, Account Officer of Caraga Lending Center, LANDBANK of the Philippines, shed light on critical topics such as entrepreneurship and digital banking. Additionally, Mr. Maronel D. Jimenez, Revenue Officer 1 of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, delved into the intricacies of coop tax exemption.

The event also showcased the success story of Baug Cooperative, presented by the General Manager of BCBMPC, Luxmi B. Auxilio. Rev. Msgr. Porfirio C. Colon Jr. emphasized the importance of fostering strong cooperative values, sparking a lively exchange among participants.

Amidst the informative sessions, the audience was treated to lively dance performances by members of the KKMPK Cooperative and The Phenomenon Dance Troupe, adding a touch of cultural vibrancy to the congress.

Following a delightful lunch, the program culminated with the presentation of the “LIGDONG AWARDS,” a testament to the outstanding efforts of local cooperatives. City Mayor Judy Chin-Amante graced the occasion, encouraging cooperative members to persevere and contribute to the local economy. Engr. Louiel C. Bulang also acknowledged the cooperative office’s achievements, highlighting the essential support of the local government in their success.

Sally Joy R. Bungabong, CDA R13 Extension Office Assistant Regional Director, took the opportunity to express gratitude to Mayor Amante for her continuous support to the cooperative sector. The event also marked the distribution of the LGU Livelihood Financial Assistance, demonstrating the city’s commitment to fostering cooperative growth.

The collaborative efforts of cooperative stakeholders and the community made the 1st Cabadbaran City Cooperative Congress a joyous and fruitful event, laying the foundation for a stronger cooperative ecosystem in the region. ********
