Nestled in the scenic and forested landscapes of Nagtipunan, Quirino, Mataddi Multipurpose Cooperative, formerly known as Mataddi Farmers Agriculture Cooperative, emerged as a response to the pressing needs of local farmers. Their journey began on March 12, 2020, as an agriculture cooperative, driven by the desire for legal recognition and the pursuit of additional income to sustain their families. The cooperative later evolved into a multipurpose cooperative on May 8, 2023.
In common with other cooperatives situated in mountainous terrains, Mataddi faced a formidable challenge – the lack of reliable internet connectivity. To fulfill their online reporting obligations, members had to undertake an arduous journey to Belance, Nueva Vizcaya, covering a distance of approximately 55 kilometers.
A significant turning point occurred on April 28, 2023, when the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), led by its Regional Extension Officers, orchestrated the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). This pivotal event unfolded simultaneously and seamlessly transpired through a virtual platform, among beneficiaries meticulously selected by the CDA Region II Extension Office.
At the heart of this transformative initiative is the CDA Internet Connectivity Project, designed to furnish micro and small cooperatives in unserved and underserved communities with satellite internet connections. Beyond overcoming the connectivity challenge, this project opens doors for cooperatives, providing access to opportunities, information, and digital empowerment.
Mataddi MPC stands as a fortunate recipient of this project, eliminating the need for extensive travels to Belance, Nueva Vizcaya, for internet access and report submissions. With newfound connectivity, they are now active participants in online webinars, ensuring they stay abreast of the latest information.
Beyond connectivity benefits, Mataddi MPC seized an entrepreneurial opportunity, generating additional income through the sale of connectivity vouchers to both members and non-members of the cooperative.
The CDA’s visionary project not only resolves connectivity issues for Mataddi MPC but represents a broader commitment to empower cooperatives, fostering digital inclusion and economic sustainability for the entire community.
