CELEBRATION OF GLOBAL MONEY WEEK 2021 SPEARHEADED BY THE COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY REGION III EXTENSION OFFICE PHILIPPINES

Cooperative Development Authority Region III Extension Office spearheaded the Global Money Week (GMW) 2021 week-long celebration in the Philippines last March 22-27, 2021 by starting off on THRIFTINESS MONDAY! The activity was launched on March 22, 2021, dubbed as the “Thriftiness Monday” featuring the Webinar in “Financial Literacy” via Zoom Platform and FB live stream.

 CDA Regional Office III  led the launching of the GMW 2021 celebration along with its 39 partners ie. Laboratory Cooperatives, Guardian Cooperatives, Financial Institutions, government agencies, and other partners/stakeholders. The launch was attended and participated by almost 150 individuals via Zoom Platform and CDA RO III FB page live stream from the 5 provinces of the region. 

 

During the event, CDA Asec Vidal D. Villanueva, Head of Finance Cluster, who served as the keynote speaker emphasized the importance of taking care of ourselves to achieve our dreams as he connotes the GMW 2021 theme: “Take care of yourself, take care of your money”. His insights focused on the importance of a balanced spiritual, health, and family life together with the value of money and savings amongst the youth.

Another highlight of the day was the Financial Literacy Webinar  conducted by  Ms. Ma. Lourdes I. Laconsay, Bank Officer II of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas-San Fernando Branch during the morning session. In  the afternoon, an online game “Let’s Hakoot-IT in Kahoot” was participated by 10 teams of Laboratory Cooperatives from the different provinces of the region. The online game had three categories; easy, moderate, and hard. Winners of the different categories of the three-teamed players were the following Laboratory Cooperatives:

GMW 2021 WAS ALSO CELEBRATED IN THE PROVINCE OF NUEVA ECIJA, A PARTNER IMPLEMENTER OF CDA RO III IN CASCADING THE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN. This was made possible thru the LGU-Llanera, LTAMPC & SK Federation of Llanera in partnership with the Nueva Ecija Provincial Government-PCEDO, CDA, BSP, and DepEd Llanera District. 

A short program was held graced by the different government officials. Highlighted by a ceremonial “Pledge of Commitment” and signing of “Global Money Week Pledge”, distribution of “Piggy Bank” and “Photo Documentation”. The  “Financial Literacy Training”  attended by selected members of LTA MPC Little Angel de San Jose House Foundation Laboratory Cooperative was also conducted and facilitated by MCEDO-LGU Llanera, PCEDO-NE at MCEDO Conference Hall Llanera, Nueva Ecija. 

In the afternoon session, the LTAMPC, MCEDO-Llanera & PCEDO-NE facilitated the “Poster Making Contest” and “Creative Piggy Bank Making Contest” relative to the GMW 2021 theme: “Take care of yourself, take care of your money”. 

 

IT’S “CHOOSE-DAY TUESDAY” INDEED! On March 23, young people beneficiaries chose to showcase their talents on the activities organized by the Guardian Cooperative partners. Our young people are truly the seed of hope even during these trying times. The activities were the following:

UNDERSCORING THE OVERALL WELLNESS OF YOUNG PEOPLE IS WHAT THE “WELLNESS WEDNESDAY” SET. The day emphasized that there will always be an unwavering support to youth by showing different opportunities even in unfortunate times, and that  financial resiliency can still be achieved.

To assure our young people that there will always be a helping hand through the guidance of Guardian Cooperatives, a webinar entitled ‘How to Organize a Laboratory Cooperative Involving Minors (HOLCIM)’ was conducted on WELLNESS WEDNESDAY. It was participated by prospective Guardian Cooperatives, provincial and municipal LGU partners, among others. CDA’s Executive Director Ray R. Elevazo served as the keynote speaker while Ms. Carolina M. Miguel, the Chief of Registration Section served as the resource person during the webinar.  It was held via the Zoom platform and it was live-streamed thru CDA Regional Office III’s fan page. 

On the same day, all entries to the contest on  “Video Documentary of Young Filipino Savers”  under Category A and Category B, as well as the entries in the Spoken Poetry Competition were posted to social media.  There were 12 entries submitted on the documentary and 9 entries to the Spoken Poetry Competition.

THANKFULL THURSDAY MARKS THE BLESSINGS WE HAD. Participants used these blessings to pose encouragement and promote financial awareness to others. Their talents on craftsmanship, dancing etc. reminds everyone how amazing our youth is.

VICTORIOUS FRIDAY IS THE WEEK-LONG CELEBRATION’S CULMINATING CUM AWARDS AND RECOGNITION DAY. Awarding of certificates and recognition of all GMW 2021 partners, announcement of winners and awarding of certificates to all young people with entries took place during the event. 

The activity was held via Zoom platform and live-streamed thru CDA RO III’s FB  fan page. It was attended by all GMW partners and beneficiaries. It was graced by Asec. Myrla B. Paradillo, CDA Board/Acting Administrator with  a short message.  The  awarding of certificates to sponsors, judges, Guardian Cooperatives and Laboratory Cooperatives for participating in the event followed. The Laboratory Cooperative members who joined the online game and individuals with entries were given certificates as well. 

Announcement of winners to “Let’s Hakoot-IT in Kahoot” was also announced. Announcement of winners of  the “Spoken poetry Competition” and “Documentary: Young Filipino Savers”. The winners and awards per competition were the following:

Moreover, a Webinar-Workshop entitled “Proper Mental Health Care:  What to Develop and to Discontinue with the Impacts of Covid-19 Crisis” was also conducted by MPMDC Employees and Officers.  Piggy banks were also distributed by St. Martin of Tours CDC to Taal Elementary School.

In the overall activity assessment of the week long GMW activities, 21.6% of the attendees were first time to attend the advocacy program while 78.4% have attended the previous GMW activities conducted by the CDA Region 3.  Also, 94.6% of the respondents said they will participate in the upcoming GMW activities again which proves the fruitful conduct of the events.
