Empowering Cooperative Leaders: Olongapo City Host CDO Certification Training in Zambales

The province of Zambales recently witnessed a significant step towards strengthening its cooperative movement with the successful completion of a Cooperative Development Officers (CDO) Certification Training. Held from August 27-30, 2024, and September 4-7 2024, at the FMA Hall in Olongapo City, the training program aimed to equip local and city CDOs with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively guide and support cooperatives within their respective municipalities.

The training is in conformity with the CDA- MC 2023 -12 spearheaded by CDA Region III Extension Office and hosted by the Olongapo City Cooperative Development Council (OCCDC), under the leadership of Ms. Joy Fernandez, OCCDC Chairperson. The event drew participation of 14 CDOs representing various municipalities across Zambales.

The training curriculum was meticulously designed to cover essential aspects of cooperative development, encompassing:

Fundamentals of Cooperatives

This foundational module provided a comprehensive understanding of cooperative principles, structures, and operations. Participants gained insights into the history, philosophy, and core values that underpin the cooperative movement. 

Governance of Cooperatives

This module delved into the legal framework, ethical considerations, and best practices for effective cooperative governance. Participants learned about the roles and responsibilities of board members, management, and members in ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainable growth. 

Training Methodology: Recognizing the importance of knowledge dissemination, this module equipped participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively train and educate others on cooperative principles and practices. Participants learned about various teaching methodologies, adult learning principles, and effective communication techniques, enabling them to become confident trainers and educators within their communities. 

The training program was facilitated by expert CDA personnel providing practical insights and real-world examples. Participants actively engaged in interactive sessions, workshops, and group discussions, creating a dynamic learning environment.

The CDO Certification Training in Zambales represents a significant investment in the future of the cooperative movement in the province. By equipping CDOs with the necessary knowledge and skills, the training program aims to foster a new generation of cooperative leaders who are equipped to guide, support, and empower cooperatives to achieve their full potential. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the economic and social development of Zambales, promoting sustainable growth and community empowerment.
