The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), establishing the CDA Law Awareness Program (CLAP). This was held on May 23, 2024 at the University Hostel of Don Honorio Ventura State University, Villa De Bacolor, Pampanga.
What is CLAP?
It refers to the innovative program of the CDA to advocate cooperative laws and principles to law schools and law students/Law Student Practitioners (LSPs) through the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) under the Revised Law Student Practice Rule (A.M. 19-03-24-SC) with the end goal of integrating cooperative subjects into the law curriculum.
With the objective to promote the spirit of cooperativism and social justice by enhancing learning opportunities of LSP’s by instilling in them the value of legal professional social responsibility, and to prepare them for the practice of law in the cooperative sector.
DHVSU school of law took this opportunity as a turning page, the answer to the challenge of the university to strive for excellence and discover the purpose of law on cooperatives. It opened its doors for CDA to partner and strengthen the linkage and establish harmonious collaborations for the effective implementation of CDA’s mandate pursuant to the implementing rules of RA 11364, Rule V (Partnership and complementation) with the academe and rule VII (cooperatives in the education system).
This partnership and collaboration is somewhat special because it focuses on cooperative laws and how the school of law and its students participate in this kind of event by submitting themselves exposing to the real world of cooperatives. The services to be rendered by law students will contribute for the growth of cooperatives in the community.
