October 30, 2024 | Pambansang Araw ng Kawanggawa sa Bagong Pilipinas: Celebrating Charity and Community in Region III
Posted on November 4, 2024
On October 30, 2024, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region III Extension Office joined forces with selected cooperatives across Central Luzon to celebrate the National Day of Charity, also known as “Pambansang Araw ng Kawanggawa sa Bagong Pilipinas.” This nationwide initiative encouraged cooperatives to embody the spirit of generosity and unity, reinforcing the importance of giving back to those in need. Rising to the occasion, Region III cooperatives organized a series of impactful charitable activities that brought positive change to diverse communities across the region.
ASCCOM Multipurpose Cooperative (MPC) hosted a heartfelt event themed Kalinga ng ASCCOM Coop: Pag-asa ng mga Batang may Ibang Kakayahan at the AMPC Main Office in San Juan, Apalit. The initiative brought joy to 80 children with disabilities, aged 1-10, who face challenges ranging from autism, inborn polio, and blindness to epilepsy, deafness, and cancer. To meet the children’s unique needs, ASCCOM MPC provided special grocery packages with items like milk, oats, cookies, rice, and cash gifts to support their medical needs. The event offered a day of games, trick-or-treat goodies, and a supportive atmosphere, showing families that cooperatives are not only lending institutions but also pillars of community care. This initiative was funded through a charity fun run held on September 29, 2024 as part of ASCCOM MPC’s 34th anniversary celebration.
In San Rafael, Bulacan, Kapwa at Kabalikat Multipurpose Cooperative organized a feeding program for children and elderly residents of Barangays Sampaloc and Ulingao. Traditional Filipino snacks like lugaw (rice porridge) and pandesal (bread rolls) were served to over 250 individuals, helping meet a basic need while strengthening the cooperative’s connection with the community through compassion and camaraderie.
Meanwhile, St. James the Apostle Multipurpose Cooperative held a medical mission in San Miguel, Betis, Pampanga, where three dedicated doctors provided free health check-ups, consultations, and medications to around 400 community members, including both cooperative members and non-members. This initiative highlighted the cooperative’s commitment to community welfare by offering essential healthcare services and promoting health awareness.
In Malolos, Bulacan, the City of Malolos Cooperative Development Council (CMCDC), led by Chairperson Ma. Amalia E. Palapal, extended its outreach efforts to the Tanglaw Pag-Asa Youth Rehabilitation Center. Essential donations, including personal hygiene items, rice, and canned goods, were provided to the young residents, offering much-needed support and fostering a message of hope and care.
This year’s celebration of the National Day of Charity was a testament to the transformative power of collective action. Through these meaningful initiatives, the CDA Region III Extension Office and cooperatives across Central Luzon demonstrated the enduring spirit of bayanihan, a uniquely Filipino tradition of community and mutual aid. Each cooperative’s contribution highlighted the core values of kindness and solidarity that drive the country’s cooperative movement.
The National Day of Charity reminds us that true progress in a new Philippines is built on compassion, inclusivity, and an unwavering commitment to uplift fellow Filipinos. CDA Region III and its registered cooperatives are dedicated to continuing this mission of service and resilience, paving the way for a brighter, more compassionate future.
The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) is a proactive and responsive lead government agency for the promotion of sustained growth and full development of the Philippines cooperatives for them to become broad - based instruments of social justice, equity and balanced national progress.
