A Week of Growth and Learning: CFIDP Year 3 Implementation – 2nd Set (Occidental Mindoro)

In the serene surroundings of Hillside Resort in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, a transformative week unfolded from August 19 to 23, 2024. This marked the CFIDP Year 3 Implementation – 2nd Set, an initiative designed to empower local coconut farmers associations and bolster their cooperative efforts.

Arrival and Anticipation

The adventure began on August 19 with the arrival of both the dedicated team and eager participants. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as everyone settled in for a week of intensive learning and collaboration. This initial day was crucial for setting up the Pre-Registration Seminar, a foundational step that prepared participants for the forthcoming sessions.

Engaging the Coconut Farmers

Day two was a turning point. The Pre-Registration Seminar was held, focusing on 12 coconut farmers associations. Of these, 10 were from Indigenous People (IP) communities scattered across the mountainous regions of Occidental Mindoro. The seminar, led by Mr. Mark Manrique and Ms. Fatima Casaul from CDA MIMAROPA, was more than a mere introduction—it was an immersive experience that outlined the week’s objectives and set a collaborative tone for the days ahead. As Mr. Manrique and Ms. Casaul shared insights and expectations, participants began to see the broader vision of the program.

Mastering Business Continuity

The third day introduced a critical component: Business Continuity Management Training. Under the guidance of Ms. Eva Loraine R. Cataje, Sr. CDS of the Cooperative Research, Information and Training Section, 31 cooperatives from across Occidental Mindoro delved into strategies to ensure their operations could withstand various disruptions. The training was practical and hands-on, equipping participants with tools and techniques to manage risks and maintain business resilience. As the session unfolded, cooperative members engaged deeply, applying new concepts to their own contexts and sharing experiences with one another.

Strategic Vision and Planning

Days four and five were dedicated to Strategic Planning and workshops. Mr. Jefhtee R. Panganiban, Sr. CDS of the Cooperative Project Development and Assistance Section, led these sessions with a focus on crafting actionable strategies for cooperative growth. Participants worked collaboratively in workshops, tackling real-world challenges and developing strategic plans that would guide their future efforts. The energy in the room was palpable as ideas flowed and strategies took shape, reflecting the commitment of each participant to their cooperative’s success.

Celebrating Achievements

The final day was a celebration of growth and accomplishment. The Graduation Ceremony, facilitated by Mr. Reyzard D. Oliveros, Provincial Coordinator and Cooperatives Development Specialist II, recognized the hard work and dedication of all participants. As certificates were awarded and words of encouragement shared, it was clear that the week had not only equipped participants with new skills but also fostered a sense of community and shared purpose.

Reflecting on the Impact

The CFIDP Year 3 Implementation – 2nd Set in Occidental Mindoro was more than a series of events; it was a journey of transformation for the coconut farmers associations of Occidental Mindoro. From the initial excitement of arrival to the final moments of celebration, the week was a testament to the power of learning and collaboration. Through expert guidance and active participation, the program successfully strengthened the capabilities of local cooperatives, setting the stage for future growth and resilience.

As the participants returned to their communities, they carried with them new knowledge, strategies, and a renewed sense of purpose. The week at Hillside Resort had not only been a time of learning but also a cornerstone for ongoing development and success in the coconut farming sector.
