On July 10, 2024, a consultation was held in Occidental Mindoro to discuss the implementation of the B2B Global Barter Trade Supply Chain Framework. This initiative is a joint venture between Asian Pyrochim Technologies Inc. and local cooperatives engaged in tobacco farming. The event featured notable guest speakers, including CEO Harley Luis T. Leano and former CDA Assistant Secretary Abad Santos. Additionally, a video message from Indonesian Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Dodo Sudradjat was played.
During the consultation, delegates from Asian Pyrochim highlighted opportunities for farmers to diversify their crops, suggesting the cultivation of abaca and palm oil. They also discussed plans for revitalizing the local mining town, stressing the importance of securing reliable markets and ensuring fair income for farmers. The delegates emphasized the need for clear agreements in all transactions.
The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) was also given the opportunity to speak. The CDA expressed its support for programs that benefit cooperatives and emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperative autonomy in decision-making. They assured attendees of their readiness to support initiatives that help cooperatives, provided these initiatives secure appropriate markets and protect cooperative interests. The CDA reiterated to the Asian Pyrochim delegation that their role includes safeguarding the interests of cooperatives.
However, the CDA of Occidental Mindoro requested additional time to study the program further and seek input from the Regional Office on B2B-related matters. They also reminded cooperatives to thoroughly review any contracts and consult with their general assemblies regarding the program.
