CDA R5 Awards 12 Desktop Computers to Coconut Farmers Cooperatives in the Bicol Region

NAGA CITY –  Following Memorandum Circular No. 2023-10 or the Guidelines on the Release of Laptop / Desktop Computer to Coconut Farmers Cooperatives (CFCs) in the Implementation of Coconut Farmers Organization and Empowerment through Cooperatives, the Cooperative Development Authority Region 5 (CDA R5) identified 12 (twelve) qualified Coconut Farmers Cooperatives to be the beneficiaries for the provision of brand new desktop computers.

On August 17, 2023 the  Awarding Ceremony of Desktop Computers was conducted by the Cooperative Development Authority Regional Extension Office V. It was attended by the 10 CFCs from the province of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, and Sorsogon namely;

  1. Paranunuyog Kasurog sa Pag – Uswag of Albay
  2. Agripreneurs of Camarines Norte of Rural Enhancement Agriculture Cooperative
  3. Calabagas Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
  4. Bicolandia Organic Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
  5. Higus Agriculture Cooperative
  6. Lupi Integrated Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
  7. La Purisima Pakili Agriculture Cooperative
  8. San Jose Bulusan Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
  9. San Roque Bulusan Agriculture Cooperative
  10. Pasacao Integrated Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative

OIC – Regional Director, Atty. Emilio D. Escueta III, expressed his appreciation to the active participation of the CFCs and asked for the continuous compliance of the CFCs to the authority. He emphasized that the provision of the computers are just tools, and that the actions and cooperation among the members of the cooperative are the essential components for them to succeed in their business operations. He also reminded the attending cooperatives to be vigilant to the recent issues of fraud and unscrupulous activities of unidentified persons pretending to be government officials. It should be reported to the concerned authorities.Usec. Joseph Encabo and Asec. Myrla Paradillo showed their support by sending virtual messages to the CFCs. They stressed the importance of these programs and partnerships with different agencies that aim to assist and improve the operations of the cooperatives through the provision of interventions both in kind and financial grants. They assured that programs like this will be continued throughout their administration which the cooperatives can look up to in the following years.

A testimonial message was given by one of the CFC beneficiaries, represented by Chairman Edgar Tabornal of La Purisima Pakili Agriculture Cooperative. He expressed his utmost gratitude to CDA R5 to the opportunity given to them starting from the 250,000 financial grant and the provision of desktop computers to their cooperative. He shared his story that being a child of a former coconut farmer, he witnessed how his father waited for the benefits of the Coco Levy Fund, and after the long wait, it is now being felt by the coconut farmers through the implementation of the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Fund (CFIDP).

For the province of Masbate, the same Awarding Ceremony was conducted on August 24, 2023. There are 2 (two) CFCs that was qualified for the intervention;

  1. Balete Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
  2. Tagbon Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative
A practical Seminar Basic Computer Literacy is also given to the CFCs beneficiaries right after the awarding of the units. The direct users of the units from the cooperatives were taught on the proper installation and assembly of the computer.  They were also taught on the basic utilization of the different computer applications that will be a great help to their day-to-day transactions.

The desktops computers units provided to the CFCs shall be utilized by them primarily for their business and office operations, and for compliance with the reporting requirements to be submitted to the authority. With this, it shall further develop a sound and transparent management that will promote meaningful business gains for the cooperatives.
