Naga City – On September 28, 2024, the CDA Region V Extension Office held a face-to-face orientation for the CDA Law Awareness Program, welcoming forty-five (45) law students/law student practitioners from Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU). The event took place in the conference room of the CDA Region V Extension Office, in fulfillment with the Memorandum of Agreement between CDA and AdNU signed last May 3, 2024.

Atty. Emilio D. Escueta III, Regional Director, warmly welcomed the future law student practitioners of the CDA Region V Extension Office. He emphasized the vital role they can play in enhancing cooperatives through their expertise in cooperative laws. Atty. Escueta encouraged them to delve deeply into this field of law as a viable career opportunity and highlighting that their contributions today could ultimately strengthen cooperative governance and foster sustainable development in the Bicol Region.

The orientation was conducted by Atty. Myk Xavier L. Albao, Chief of the Legal Section of the CDA Region V Extension Office. It included an overview of the CDA’s background, its organizational structure, the externship program, and the responsibilities of the law student practitioners.

Atty. Rai Dimaano, Director of the Ignatian Legal Apostolate Office (ILAO), concluded the event by expressing her enthusiasm for the future law student practitioners who will be assigned in the CDA Regional Office.

This partnership between the CDA Region V Extension Office and AdNU goes beyond academic training. It includes collaborative programs and activities aimed at promoting cooperative principles and increasing legal awareness throughout the broader community. Through these initiatives, the cooperative sector will gain access to legal consultations enabling them to better understand the cooperative law and the LSP’s will be immersing themselves in working in the government and values of cooperativsm, all for the pursuit of social justice.

The CDA REO V seeks to conduct its orientation with the LSP’s of UNC Law and other partner schools in the near future.
