On August 12, 2024, the Summit Hotel in Naga City became a hub of collaboration and discussion as 38 participants from across the Bicol Region gathered for the Cooperative Development Officers (CDOs) Orientation and Consultation Meeting. This event brought together a diverse group of Cooperative Development Officers and Local Coconut Farmer Leaders, creating a platform for addressing critical issues and planning future activities within the cooperative sector.
The meeting focused on the unique challenges faced by local coconut farmers, who fall under the jurisdiction of the CDOs. By bringing together CDOs and farmer leaders, the event facilitated an open dialogue aimed at identifying and resolving these issues, ensuring that the needs of coconut farmers are effectively met through cooperative efforts.
In addition to addressing these concerns, the meeting also served as a consultative forum for upcoming activities organized by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). Key topics included the CDO Accreditation Program, which aims to standardize and elevate the role of CDOs in their respective communities, and the participation of CDOs in significant national events such as the CMPL National Summit and the CSF National Convention.
Atty. Emilio D. Escueta III, the Regional Director of CDA Region V Extension Office, graced the event with his presence. His participation underscored the CDA’s commitment to the cooperative sector and its recognition of the crucial role that CDOs and local leaders play in driving the development and success of cooperatives in the region. In his address, Atty. Escueta emphasized the importance of dedication and collaboration among all participants, inspiring them to continue their efforts in supporting and advancing the cooperative movement.
The orientation and consultation meeting provided a valuable opportunity for participants to share their experiences, learn from each other, and collaborate on strategies that will benefit the cooperative sector as a whole. The insights gained from this event will undoubtedly contribute to the more effective management and support of local cooperatives, particularly those involving coconut farmers.
As the cooperative movement continues to evolve, events like this orientation and consultation meeting are essential in ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned in their goals and equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed. The commitment shown by the CDOs, local leaders, and CDA officials during this event is a promising sign for the future of cooperatives in the Bicol Region.
With the groundwork laid during this meeting, the participants are now better prepared to take on the challenges ahead, fostering stronger, more resilient cooperatives that can drive sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of farmers and other cooperative members across the region.
