Virac, Catanduanes – Representatives from local media in Catanduanes witnessed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between the Union of Enterprising Cooperatives (UNECO) and Cooperative Union of Catanduanes (CUC), both are secondary cooperatives which aim at promoting and advocating cooperativism among its members and the public through socially oriented projects, education and training, research and communication and other similar activities to reach out to its intended beneficiaries. The MOA formalizes the continuous partnership between both cooperatives to foster collaboration in areas of mutual interest, with the goal of providing cooperative officers, employees, and members with the knowledge, skills and attitudes through management programs on building cooperative capabilities across the country in preparing for and responding to cooperative challenges, in accordance with the objectives and principles of the parties.The MOA was signed on March 1, 2024 at Rakdell Hotel, Virac, Catanduanes by Dr. Jose R. Domingo, Chairperson of UNECO, a professor of De Lasalle University, Dasmariñas, Cavite and the incumbent Chairperson of De La Salle University Dasmarinas Development Cooperative and Mr. Crispin S. Lopez, Chairperson of CUC and the incumbent Chairperson of Provincial Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PROVEMCO).
Also present at the signing ceremony were officers and staff of UNECO, Ms. Anita L. Tasarra, Vice Chairperson of CUC and Atty. Gregorio M. Sarmniento Jr also a BOD member of CUC who delivered his welcome remarks during the short program.
Underscoring the significance of the MOA, Dr. Jose R. Domingo in his message, stressed the CUC which stands for Cooperation, Unity and Camaraderie as the vital aspects in the partnership. Also, as stated in the MOA under the specific collaboration, the UNECO shall provide KAS management services in the mandatory and optional curricula as well as other knowledge, production, development, dissemination, and sharing services provided for under existing memoranda circular of the Cooperative Development Authority.
Mr. Ophar June V. Dy, CDS II of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in his message, expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone whose dedication and efforts have contributed to the finalization of this MOA. The signing of the MOA is just the beginning of a timely partnership to help the cooperative sector in Catanduanes. The partnership will also help the trainers from CUC to bench mark, gain more knowledge and expertise in order to become a well-versed and trained speaker in the process along with the various trainings to be conducted and shared in the future by both cooperatives.
The momentous MOA signing concluded with a message of thanks by Mr. Crispin S. Lopez and a happy photo-taking opportunity of the guests and participants followed by a solidarity lunch.
