CUC conducts CDA Mandated and Compliance Training

Virac, Catanduanes – With the mandate to promote the knowledge of cooperative principles and practices, particularly to its member-cooperative, the Cooperative Union of Catanduanes in partnership and collaboration with Camarines Norte Federation of Cooperatives (CANOFECO) and CDA RO5 – Catanduanes Field Office conducted the CDA mandated and compliance trainings for small, medium and large category cooperatives held last May 2-5, 2023 at Queen Maricel Inn, San Isidro Village, Virac, Catanduanes.

The said activity was participated by board of directors, committee members, managers and members of different cooperatives all over the province. Hon. Jan Ferdinand A. Alberto, Provincial Board Member of the West District, who is also the Chairperson of the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) graced the opening program together with the designate PCDO Mr. Joseph Taniajura, CUC Chairperson Mr. Crispin Lopez and Mr. Ophar June V. Dy, CDA Provincial CDS.

The four-days training was divided into two batches of sixteen (16) hours each. The first batch of training was attended by 70 participants that focused on the Fundamentals of Cooperative which aimed to equip participants, the basic knowledge on cooperative principles, knowledge and skills necessary for the proper management of cooperatives and to orient the cooperative officers of the relevant laws pertaining cooperative operation.

The second batch of was attended by 68 participants and was spent for the Governance and Management of Cooperatives which aimed at understanding the governance and management aspect of cooperatives; its roles and functions. Also, to know the principles of good governance and management to ensure that the cooperative is governed and managed prudently to meet its obligations to members as well as to the community. In order to get the engagement of the participants the resource speakers from CANOFECO team introduced workshops, focus group discussions and case study which was actively responded by participants. After the discussions, an open forum was conducted which was addressed accordingly by the Resource Persons.

All in all, the activity was a huge success. The last day of the training ended with a message from CUC that series of training shall follow to continuously educate, equip and capacitate cooperatives in the province.
