The city is officially known as the 1st-class highly urbanized city in Central Visayas and has a population of more than 500 thousand based on the 2023 census. The majority are into diverse industries and businesses, and it is famous for its stunning beach resorts and relevant historical landmarks with high-end accommodation. The tagline “Free Yourself” is about all the amazing recreational experiences it could offer and its historical importance on the island of Mactan, which was then led by Filipino Chieftain Lapu-lapu, the great freedom fighter who defeated the Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.
“Name it, they have it,” where aside from its colorful historical and cultural heritage, cooperative undertaking is likewise on top for more than 50 compliant coops are existing in the said locality, majority of which are small, medium, and large in classification. We are optimistic to see the rise of CSF Coop in the city because of the steadfast and vibrant leadership of Hon. Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan who wants to raise the standard of living of its constituents and free them from poverty through cooperation, especially those in the marginalized sector. As the tagline says, “Free Yourself,” it is certain that it is one of the priority programs close to the heart of the Honorable Mayor. With the full support of all members of the Committee on Cooperatives and Livelihood and the active participation of the LCDO headed by Atty. Sean Kristoffer Obenza and the Federation of Cooperatives in the locality, we could see the commitment and interests posed by all the stakeholders to pursue the creation of the CSFC for the upliftment and betterment of our Cooperatives, MSMEs and NGOs, who are our target beneficiaries.
“Padayon CSF! They have it in Lapu-lapu!”. (gfr)
