The Municipality of Abuyog recently held its Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC) organizational meeting on February 11, 2025, marking a significant step towards strengthening the cooperative sector in the area. The event, initiated by Municipal Cooperative Development Officer Ms. Daryll Mae A. Ruales with active participation from various stakeholders, including Department of Agriculture (DA), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer(MENRO), Public Employment Service Officer (PESO), Municipal Planning Development Officer(MPDO) and the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

The meeting was graced by the presence of Abuyog Municipal Administrator, representing the Hon. Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya, and CDA Regional Director Venus M. Jornales. The program included a presentation on MC 2023-03 by CDA Field CDS Jesus Clyde Colis, followed by an inspiring message from Regional Director Venus M. Jornales. A key highlight of the meeting was the election of MCDC officers. Following the election, the newly elected officers were inducted into their roles. The council then proceeded with its first official meeting, during which a resolution requesting CDA recognition was drafted. This move aligns with CDA Memorandum Circular (MC) 2022-03, which guides the establishment and operation of MCDCs.

The efforts of the newly formed MCDC quickly bore fruit. After fulfilling the necessary requirements for CDC recognition, the CDA awarded the Certificate of CDC Recognition, signifying the official establishment of the council. This milestone paves the way for enhanced collaboration and coordination among cooperatives and relevant stakeholders in Abuyog, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the cooperative sector in the municipality.
