CDA joins the Launching of the FATIMA Multipurpose Cooperative (FATIMA MPC) Root crops Processing Center

The Grand launching of the Fatima Multipurpose Cooperative Root crops Processing Center located in Brgy. Astorga, Tunga, Leyte on February 8, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the agricultural innovation of Region VIII. The event was honored by the presence of Assistant Secretary Virgilio R. Lazaga, M.D, Board Member III, Head Agriculture, Agrarian, Aquaculture, Farmers, Dairy, and Fisherfolk Cooperatives Cluster, Assistant Secretary Luz H. Yringco, Board Member III, Head Finance Cooperatives Cluster and CDA Region VIII Extension Office Regional Director, RD. Venus M. Jornales.

The Rootcrops Processing Plant of the Fatima MPC is pioneering Region VIII, showcasing agricultural innovation. The cooperative provided a plant tour during the launch, highlighting their processing center and displaying various cooperative products primarily made from cassava. The establishment of the processing center reflects the Fatima Multipurpose Cooperative (Fatima MPC) commitment to supporting its members and local communities, promoting livelihoods, and contributing to agricultural growth by transforming root crops into products that Region VIII can proudly showcase.

This ambitious project wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative efforts of key partners such as the Department of Agriculture (DA), Agriterra, VSU – PhilRootcrops, Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), Landbank of the Philippines (LBP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Small Business Corporation (SBC), LGU – Tunga and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). Their combined commitment turned this vision into a reality.

The inauguration of the processing plant symbolizes a new era of economic vitality and employment opportunities. It signifies progress in both agriculture and cooperative sectors, emphasizing the cooperative’s dedication to advancing the well-being of its members and contributing to the overall development of the region. The collaborative spirit displayed by the partner agencies sets a precedent for future projects for cooperative sector aiming to boost agricultural innovation and rural development.
