On October 3, 2023, the CDA RO8 kicked off this year’s cooperative month celebration. A colorful motorcade around Tacloban City transpired during the significant event, with over one hundred thirty (130) participating cooperative representatives from across Region Eight. A Thanksgiving mass and a kick-off program followed at the Robinsons Mall Marasbaras, emphasizing solidarity among the CDA and the cooperative sector amidst challenges in these changing times.
With the theme, Cooperatives: Pioneering the Path to Recovery Amidst Modern Challenges of Climate Change and Food Security, CDA RO8 Regional Director Venus M. Jornales led the event with full empowerment to the cooperative sector, recognizing its achievements through the years and encouraging every member to continue working together to act on anything that comes through their paces.
Highlights of the event that made it meaningful were the attendance of the participating cooperatives and some of the CDA partner agencies. As to the Transport Cooperatives, it was indeed momentous for them to join this year’s coop month celebration. According to them, they have taken steps towards modernizing their units to provide better transport services to the society by being registered cooperatives. There were also from Credit, Consumers, Marketing, and Multipurpose types of cooperatives in the region who have indeed, over the years, stood in for calls for assistance and showed resilience. Also in attendance were Ms. Ruena M. Mate of the Tacloban City Cooperative Development and Assistance Office (TCCDLAO), Chairman Rosario Valenzona of Palompon Community Multipurpose Cooperative (PACCI), Mr. Joshua Mandawe of Perpetual Help Multipurpose Cooperative (PHCCI-MPC Tacloban), and Ms. Abigail Ramirez, OIC Robinsons Marasbaras Manager.
It is truly a blessing for the CDA to receive such support from its valued cooperatives and partner agencies to celebrate the spirit of cooperativism. The CDA RO8 likewise invites everyone to laud this year’s Coop Month with more activities lined up: Coop Youth Power Run, Coop Shares for Elderlies and PWDs, Koop Balitaan on CDA Latest Issuances and Updates, Virtual ECoopClip Clinique, Series of Webinars and Training Exercises on Different Cooperative Topics; and, Adlaw Han Pagkilala as the Culminating Activity.
