The CDA RO 8 held a fruitful 2-day Training on the Financial Standards of Cooperatives for its personnel on February 8 and 9, 2023. Headed by the Acting Regional Director, Venus M. Jornales, twenty-one (21) Region-based personnel, and fourteen (14) Field personnel actively participated in this training at their Conference Hall in Tacloban City.. An initiative of the Regional Office to be fully equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills to continue to fulfill one of the agency’s mandates, to provide technical guidance in assisting the cooperatives to develop into viable and responsive economic enterprises. 

The training transpired having the active Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Cooperatives, PICPA, and former Director of the Institutional Development Department (IDD) of the CDA Central Office, Ms. Fe D. Caingles, CPA, alongside one of the dedicated Members of the CDA Board of Directors, and Acting Administrator, Asec Myrla B. Paradillo, as the credible Resource Speakers. Accordingly, the training highlights were the speakers’ dynamic and keen lectures, write-shops, participants’ presentation of activity outputs, and discussions on the MC 2022-24: Revised Standard Chart of Accounts for Cooperatives, the MC 2021-04: Performance Audit Report for Cooperatives particularly on the Stability, Turnover Ratio, Efficiency, Profitability, and Structure of Assets (STEPS), and the Cooperative Compliance. The whole CDA RO8 personnel has indeed enhanced their aptitude in accounting for the financial reporting of cooperatives, interpreting cooperative financial statements, and pulling off full cooperative compliance.

The conduct of this enhancement training has certainly been carried-out productively as the whole agency exhibited its efforts to continue developing itself in servicing its clientele; to harmonize with the complexity of the cooperative business environment; and to proffer upright advisory and technical assistance to the cooperatives in the region. The CDA RO VIII family recognized and appreciated the speakers who have helped upskilled and expanded their capabilities. In the end, everyone has been reminded to always accord with the speaker’s borrowed words from Anthony J. D’Angelo, “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”
