The Leyte Colleges-College of Law joins the Cooperative Development Authority in its advocacy for the advancement of the cooperatives sector through CDA Laws Awareness Program (CLAP) partnership under the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP).
On May 8, 2024, the higher education institution, led by the College of Law Dean Atty. Joseph A. Gamez, with the full support of school Supervising Lawyers, Atty. Blanche A. Salino and Atty. Mel Ryan Caballes, and Dr. Josefa Yasmin A. Moriel, Head of Operations and Academics warmly welcomed Acting Assistant Regional Director Maripaz M. Del Pilar, Legal Officer Atty. Jasper M. Carias, and Legal Staff Lyditt Issa B. Galban, of CDA Region VIII Extension Office to discuss the partnership. Joining virtually by CDA Head Office Legal Affairs Service (LAS), Deputy Administrator Atty. Leah B. Banagui-Han, and Atty. Sheena T. Rima, CLAP Focal Person, finalized a Memorandum of Agreement to be forged between the two institutions.
CDA LAS outlined the program, referencing legal bases RA 9520, RA 11364, and
CDA Omnibus Rules of Procedure. Negotiations followed regarding Law Student Practitioners’ responsibilities under Rule 138-A, the Law Student Practice Rule (A.M. 19-03-24-SC).
The Authority is elated by the support the Leyte Colleges has shown for this momentous endeavor. After proposals have been joined, a memorandum of agreement between the two institutions is on the way, paving the path for the benefit of both the cooperative sector and the law student practitioners, who will be expected to join the cause for the development of the cooperatives in the region. Let all parties continue to thrive, advocating for social justice as enshrined in the constitution.
