In a momentous step toward strengthening local partnerships and cooperative growth, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) recently conducted a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Carigara, Leyte. The visit marked a collaborative milestone aimed at advancing the shared goals of economic development and community empowerment within the municipality. The courtesy visit served as an opportunity for the CDA to align with the local government unit’s (LGU) priorities and explore synergies for enhancing development in Carigara. The CDA team, led by its Regional Director Ms. Venus Jornales, sought to discuss critical areas such as capacity-building initiatives, policy support for cooperatives, and opportunities for collaborative projects.
One of the central topics during the visit was the implementation of training programs tailored to the needs of local cooperatives. These programs aim to enhance the knowledge and skills of cooperative leaders and members in areas such as governance, entrepreneurship and regulatory compliance. Additional discussions also touched on forging partnerships between the LGU and cooperatives through their MCDO. This collaborative approach aims to maximize resources and create innovative solutions for local cooperative change. The CDA team expressed their appreciation with the appointment of Ms. Rachelyn Sylvistre as the designated Municipal Cooperative Development Officer (MCDO) in Carigara, Leyte. This move underscores the municipality’s commitment to further strengthen the cooperative sector and the importance of collaboration between the CDA and local government units in fostering sustainable development and empowering communities through cooperative efforts. Mayor Eduardo Ong Jr. expressed his gratitude for the CDA’s visit and affirmed the government’s support in providing the necessary resources and creating an enabling environment for cooperatives to thrive.
The courtesy call concluded with an optimistic outlook as both parties shared a vision of strengthening cooperative development to achieve inclusive growth in Carigara. It served as a platform for both parties to discuss initiatives, programs, and strategies that can empower local cooperatives, drive economic growth and promote community development. CDA is looking forward to working hand in hand with its local government unit to ensure that Carigara’s cooperatives reach their full potential.
