Region VIII Marks International Day of Cooperatives

On July 6, 2024, the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Region 8 Tacloban Extension Office spearheaded the celebration of International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) in the region. The event, which carried the global theme “Cooperatives Building a Better Future for All,” was graced by CDA Regional Director Venus M. Jornales.

The celebration underscored the critical role cooperatives play in building a better future for Region VIII. By prioritizing inclusive and sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, and democratic governance, cooperatives empower communities and contribute to a more vibrant regional economy.

Highlights of the Region VIII IDC Celebration

The event offered a multifaceted experience for attendees:

  • Regional Cooperative Profile: In-depth presentations delved into the current landscape and impact of cooperatives within Region VIII, providing valuable insights for stakeholders.
  • Engaging with Online Photobooth – Adding a touch of fun, an online IDC Photobooth allowed participants to capture memories and showcase their support for the cooperative movement.
  • Sharing Success Stories – The spotlight shined on two exemplary cooperatives: Perpetual Health Multipurpose Cooperative (PHCCI) in Tacloban and Allen Municipal Employees Cooperative (AMOEC) in Allen, Northern Samar. By sharing their best practices, these cooperatives fostered a valuable knowledge exchange, allowing others to learn and adapt successful strategies. This collaborative spirit fosters innovation and equips cooperatives to tackle challenges effectively.

Building a Brighter Future for All

The Region VIII IDC celebration served as a powerful reminder of the collective strength cooperatives possess. By working together and sharing best practices, cooperatives can continue to be a driving force for positive change in Region VIII and beyond.
