BIDLISIW SA KALAMBOAN MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SUCCESS STORY

Bidlisiw Sa Kalamboan Multipurpose Cooperative started its operation after a few years of implementation of the Sponsorship Program (SP) by the Mindanao Resource Institute for Community Empowerment (MINRICE), Inc., a non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) headed by Dr. Fernand Q. Buensalida in partnership with ChildFund Japan (CFJ). After a series of meetings and consultations with the sponsored families or the beneficiaries of the program, they felt the need to organize themselves into a self-reliant organization. Composed of 53 members coming from the two barangays (Cogon and Sangkol) in Dipolog City, each member started contributing Capital Build-Up (CBU) of P200.00.

In 2010, they were formally organized as cooperative and formally registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and were granted registration with registration number 9520-09016951 and CIN – 0103090532 on September 30, 2010. Lending is the core business of the cooperative designed for productive and providential purposes. It has three products: commodity loan, business loan, and multi-purpose loan.

The coop started with a commodity loan that entices members most to patronize their product, followed by Microfinance loan in 2011.  Regular loan and Multi-Purpose loan in 2012-2013. The meeting was conducted every month to report the progress of their business by presenting and discussing the Manager’s Loan Delinquency Analysis Report and Loan Delinquency Action Plan, the Treasurer’s cash flow updates, and the bookkeeper’s financial analysis report.  Members’ commitment and participation strengthened as they saw the impact of their cooperation.

As the coop continues its journey to be self-reliant, core leaders tender their voluntary services and genuine commitment to manage the coop and enhance their capability by attending CDA mandated training and seminars conducted mostly by the Institute of Cooperative Studies of the MASS SPECC Cooperative Development Center in partnership with the Aloran – Oroquieta – Dipolog Cluster of Cooperatives.

In 2019, the cooperative was granted the amendments to the Articles of Cooperation and By- Laws and become MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE.  It has graduated from Micro to Small Category with total assets of Ph3,004,372.64 as of December 31, 2017.
