The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) IX, Zamboanga Sibugay Unit Office, successfully held a 2-day mandatory training for various micro cooperatives in the province at the Provincial Capitol Atrium on July 18-19, 2024. This training, held in compliance with Article 44 of RA 9520, Rule 7 of its Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations, and Memorandum Circular No. 2015-09, aimed to educate and empower cooperative officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to fulfill their duties and responsibilities, thus fostering more cohesive and efficient business operations based on cooperative principles.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Provincial Cooperative Office headed by Attorney Socrates Villota, the Provincial Cooperative Officer, saw an impressive turnout of 109 participants from 24 different micro cooperatives across Zamboanga Sibugay. This marks the largest attendance for such an event in the province to date.

Attorney Villota delivered a message during the event, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the business operations of cooperatives. He highlighted that running a business based on cooperative principles is essential for maintaining trust and accountability within the organization.

The training sessions, led by Rosylie S. Balungcas, Cooperatives Development Specialist II, covered two essential topics: “Fundamentals of Cooperatives” and “Governance and Management of Cooperatives,” each spanning 8 hours. These sessions provided in-depth knowledge and practical insights, crucial for the effective management and governance of cooperatives.

Special thanks are extended to Governor Ann K. Hofer for her unwavering support and for generously allowing the use of the Provincial Capitol Atrium as the venue for this significant event. Her commitment to the development of cooperatives in the province is greatly appreciated.
