Bloodletting activity marked a significant and meaningful event during the 2024 Cooperative Month celebration, highlighting the cooperative spirit’s dedication to health and community welfare. This event aimed to emphasize the importance of collaboration not only for economic growth but also for social responsibility and public health.
Sixteen (16) cooperatives and a total of 33 individuals donated blood to support local hospitals and blood banks crucial resources for patients in need.. This in collaboration with Red Cross, Local Government of Pagadian, Pagadian City Cooperative Council, Pagadian City Cooperative Union and cooperatives fostering a sense of unity and goodwill.
In a statement, cooperative leaders explained that the bloodletting activity was part of a broader commitment to serve communities beyond the usual cooperative roles in financial and business support. “This is a way for us to give back to the community and fulfill our mission of service,” shared a cooperative representative, adding that the event was aligned with the theme of the 2024 Cooperative Month: “Stronger Together Today for a Brighter Tomorrow.”
The bloodletting activity added a humanitarian dimension to the Cooperative Month festivities, reminding people of the power of cooperation and collective action. Cooperatives from different regions exchanged stories about their experiences, creating a chain of inspiration that may lead to similar activities in the future. This commitment to improving community welfare, particularly through life-saving initiatives like blood donation, highlighted the cooperative movement’s relevance in modern society.
As Cooperative Month progresses, various other events—such as workshops, seminars, and outreach programs—will continue to strengthen the bonds within cooperatives and between them and their communities, reinforcing the values that make the cooperative movement vital to societal progress. The bloodletting activity, however, stands out as a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact that collaboration and community-mindedness can achieve.
